The Bureau uses the 1961 to 1990 baseline as standard when declaring below or above average temps. This baseline is used because that was the period when winters were still cold and it still snowed in low-lying places like Albury. We are hard-pressed to get snow below 600 m nowadays in NSW, let alone sub-200 m.
All of my statements are based on RAW data taken straight from the thermometer. I do my own research thankyou very much.
I do find it most amusing how Tony Heller, the supposed ‘historical climate expert’, chooses to ignore newspaper articles from the distant past that detail low-lying snowfalls in Australia – some of which would be hard-pressed to occur in our alpine areas today.

Something I do not understand. Could you please explain why, before the three year La Nina, there was a single high pressure system that sat over the Australian continent without moving for three years, with one exception.
About eight months before the La Nina, that high pressure system moved the wrong way towards Africa, but within five days had moved back onto Australia where it sat for more months.

Neither Heller nor Cap have any clue as to Australia’s historical climate. Don’t pretend like they know even half as much as I do – my daily hobby is looking up and compiling tables of Australian climate data on Wikipedia. I’m no ordinary fella – I can tell you that much.
I can name just about every station in NSW and VIC off the top of my head, with PoR and all. I’m quite literally an Aussie climate encyclopaedia. NOTHING gets past me.
In fact I’ve done this so often that I’ve memorised mean mins and mean maxes, rainfall enough that I can tell exactly which region the climate is from without even looking at the location. Heller frankly doesn’t hold a candle in my presence.

GSM in progress or not?: There is no disagreement that water vapor is the strongest greenhouse gas, so I factor the massive Hunga Tonga moisture for having the good earth a degree C or so warmer than would otherwise be. And for providing plenty of water stock for the increased rain and snowfall for the last 40 months or so.
The excess moisture will dissapate and then we will see.

I’ve been out pruning my grapes and blackberries. Got the rest of my firewood all stacked and mowed the lawn and went around with the weed eater. I transplanted zukes this morning and picked peas and dug spuds then pruned two apple trees.
Mercury in retrograde and New Moon next Sunday. Solar flares forecast. Mercury goes by on Aug 12th or so lots of solar flares forecast next three weeks. The Sun’s polarities are still primed for solar flares, not stable at the poles. Not solar miminum quiet sun and global cooling now. Watching solar flares is way funner than not watching them. They’re better than fireworks and warm the planet so we can grow food. Enjoy the show while it lasts solar miminum is boring, no flares to watch.

Here in Misery, we have a heat advisory starting tomorrow, through Thursday, highs in the 90’s. Then it slowly declines. Can’t say it’s unseasonal, just unappreciated. Likely to be very humid as well.
